This head covering – also known as a Tudor hood because it was extremely popular among the English ladies – really originated in France. In any case, it was more graceful and feminine than the angular, bulky English hood that well to do English women were wearing over their coifs and quickly became popular. Anne Boleyn, the second wife of Henry VIII, had grown up in France and probably introduced it to the English court. Although women wore French hoods for around half of the 16th century, during that time they developed from nun-like veils to arrangements of pearls and jewels perched at the back of the head.

The velvety matte blue of this French hood is framed by typical shiny, golden trim dotted with artificial pearls and pleated edging. Simply put this blue French hood on like a hair band – it also has two braided ribbons that you can tie at the back of your head.
