Urban historian and amateur archaeologist, Franz I. zu Erbach-Erbach was famous for the collection of antiques he exhibited in his castle at the beginning of the 19th century. In his great hall he also had an extensive collection of old German weapons. From 1480, the prototype of our German hand and a half sword is among the swords in this El Dorado for edged weapon fans. The cutting and thrusting weapon of the Renaissance is the hand and a half sword that Oakeshott assigned to the Type XVIIIa without Fuller category. Our version features a very beautiful steel hilt. The crossguard tapers toward its ends, which have the same twist a smith can work into wrought iron. The riveted pommel is also twisted and it is heavy enough to provide an ideal balance.

This 1:1 replica of the Castle Erbach sword comes with a leather scabbard featuring a mount and chape.
