The prototype of this breathtaking, official sword comes from the epic blockbuster, "Gladiator," directed by Ridley Scott and awarded several Oscars. Actor Russel Crow wields this sword in his role as General Maximus Decimus Meridius.

At 76 cm long, this sword of tempered carbon steel is very long for a weapon from this era. To this end, Maximus' sword cannot be classed with the gladius style widely in use at the time, but is rather an early version of the longer spatha. Whereas the grip design does indeed align with the Roman gladius with its lathe-turned imitation ivory and the half spherical cross guard.

The latter as well as the pommel are made of beautifully grained wood with a red brown varnish and have typical Roman brass ornaments. This decoration continues in the brass details on the scabbard. The leather of the scabbard and matching sword belt are in the same red brown tone as the wooden elements of the grip.
