The history of Castile is rife with war, intrigues, complications and reunifications. But the dispute between the central kingdom of the Iberian peninsula and the Caliphate of Cordoba was on-again, off-again – at times, the Christians and Moors also kept up a lively cultural exchange.

This Sword of Castile is the reproduction of a sword that is in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum in New York City. It is thought to be the sword of Sancho IV of Castile (1284-1295) and is classified as an Oakeshott type XIV sword. With the exception of the broad fuller, our sword has the exact same dimensions as the original. The extremely broad blade measures almost 7 cm at the base. This hand forged sword made of carbon steel is a powerful edged weapon that marks the end of the development of swords that were only used for cutting. The broad, curved crossguard and the large wheel pommel are both made of steel. The grip is hardwood wrapped with suede.

Our Sword of Castile comes with a leather scabbard featuring a chape and mount.
