Medieval Gloves in our Larp Shop

Medieval leather gloves are a very practical garment for those who want to participate in fights, for example, on a live role-playing game. Leather knight gloves fit well under the bracers and prevent blistering and slipping when fighting with upholstered weapons. We offer a variety of medieval leather gloves in a wide range of colors. You can find short leather gloves as well as leather gauntlets for musketeers. But what is actually behind the term medieval gloves? The glove in its original form is much older than the Middle Ages.

Leather Gloves of the Middle Ages and Antiquity

Medieval leather gloves, gauntlet gloves or even chain mail gloves for knights, you can find at our Larp Onlineshop. But gloves existed long before the Middle Ages. The oldest representation of gloves for boxing dates back to the year 3000 BC, and can be found on Crete. The early models consisted of fur and bone clasps and were rather similar to our mittens. The Romans and Egyptians already had leather gloves with fingers, yet at that time they were regarded as a status symbol. King Tutankhamun had 27 pairs in his grave. But of course they were also practical to protect the hand from the cold in the northern areas or at work when picking olives. Even gladiators wore gloves to better grip their oiled enemies. Antique or medieval gloves usually consisted of leather, wool, cotton or fur. In the Middle Ages, church members wore medieval gloves at ceremonies. Later, gloves often served as a symbol for the granting of market rights by the feudal lord, the determination of knightly vassals and - who does not know the famous feudal glove - as a challenge to a duel. In the Middle Ages, popular models were leather gloves. Chain gloves or armoured gloves, like gauntlets, were made to complete knight's armour. Also three-finger gloves as archery gloves made of leather were developed.

Especially for women there were knitted medieval gloves from the 13th century. In the Renaissance gloves were decorated with fine embroidery and sequins. The models became longer and longer as the sleeves of the dresses became shorter. Over the next centuries a glove etiquette developed: In the evening velvet and silk and during the day suede was worn.

Even employees and soldiers have to wear gloves on occasions until today. So if you are looking for suitable medieval gloves or leather gloves for occasions or live role playing, you will find something here.
