This Renaissance short sword is a cinquedea, the Italian word for "five fingers," because at the base, the blade is approximately as wide as five fingers. These short swords were developed in northern Italy, and were very popular for non-military use in the 15th and 16th centuries.

The wide double-edged blade, which tapers rapidly to a point, has two long, wide fullers and two short, narrow ones to reduce the sword's overall weight. The crossguard is curved and it has one side guard ring to provide addition protection for your hand. The wooden grip is embellished with brass ribbing, and the pear-shaped pommel prevents your hand from slipping from the grip during a powerful thrust.
