A schiavona is a type of basket hilt sword that was used almost exclusively in Venice from the 16th to the 18th century. The name could be borrowed from "gli schiavoni," the name of the swords carried by the Slavic/Dalmatian/Croatian guard of the Doge of Venice. In any case, our schiavona features the straight, double-edged blade and unusual pommel with the characteristic double knuckle bow. It also has an elegant, riveted basket hilt. The blade with three fullers is a very potent cut and thrust weapon. The wooden grip is wrapped with leather and the distinctive, riveted pommel adds flair to the schiavona's look. It comes with a leather scabbard.
