On board ship, weapons were usually kept under lock and key. Mutinying crew members could have turned angry words into bloody deeds too easily if they were carrying weapons.

But the captain had a special role and was of course allowed to have his saber or hanger at his side at all times. Our officer hanger has a modestly curved blade with a narrow fuller that extends over three-quarters of the length of the blade. This saber has a one handed grip wrapped in leather. The hand guard includes a crossguard that extends toward the pommel. The ball-shaped pommel is decorative, but it also contributes to the balance of our officer hanger, which comes with a scabbard.
