Originally, ship's crews used daggers like this one – so-called dirks – during close combat when they were taking over an enemy ship. In the 18th century, fights like these became rarer and rarer, and dirks changed with the times. They became representative uniform weapons, which officers would carry on their belts.

The Navy Officer dirk is designed for representation: its sheath, crossguard, and pommel are made of solid brass. The grip is made of horn decoratively wrapped with twisted brass wire. Two eyelets with rings on the sheath – also made of brass – allow you to wear this dirk on your belt. The blade itself is hand forged from tempered carbon steel.
