Similar models were used in World War I in the trench battles that resulted from the attrition warfare practiced on the Western Front. It became apparent that the soldiers' equipment didn't live up to the particular challenge of the situation, so bayonets were shortened to be more knife-like in the mobile forges on the front.

This black trench knife replica is based on its historical predecessors and is made entirely of blued steel. In bayonet style, the blade is one-edged and has been shortened accordingly. The blackened hilt features a rustic grip that evokes a deer's antlers. The grip ends in a riveted pommel.

The black trench knife comes with a matching sheath of tempered carbon steel.
