You can also spell the name of this traditional Nepalese weapon "khukuri," but kukri is the most common spelling. Many regiments in the Indian, Nepalese and British armies are still equipped with this distinctive cutting weapon, including the Assam Rifles, one of the oldest paramilitary units in India.

This kukri comes from the same forge that has crafted the official edged weapons for the Indian Army since 1943, and also supplies the Assam Rifles. It has two wide fullers ("dui chira") and the typical cut outs that symbolize the goddess Shiva's trident The hardwood grip is framed by an end plate and a brass pommel decorated with a lion's head. The tang is riveted.

The traditional scabbard is as distinctive as the kukri it holds. Made of wood wrapped in black buffalo leather, it has a brass chape. The scabbard fits into a holder consisting of a band of heavy grade leather stitched to form a loop and attached to two loops for a belt, with pockets for the karda and chakmak. The latter are two kukris in miniature. The karda is a small all-purpose knife and the dull blade of the chakmak is used with flint for fire-making.
