"Sempach sword" actually designates a small, separate category of swords. They are slim and relatively lightweight, but their blade shape indicates that they were typically used for piercing plate armor. They became widespread in Europe toward the end of the 14th century – parallel to the golden age of plate armor. Examples of this sword were found at the site of the battle between Leopold III of Austria and the Swiss Confederation that was fought in Sempach near Lucerne in 1386. Oakeshott classified Sempach swords as type XVII.

Our Sempach sword is a replica of an English sword found in the Great Ouse River in England. The original is on exhibit in the Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge. The sharp blade hand forged of carbon steel has a narrow, well-developed fuller that runs approx. three-quarters of the sword's length and a full tang. The riveted pommel is an early example of the fishtail shape. The long wooden grip has a spiraling ridge and is wrapped in leather. In combination with the wide crossguard, our Sempach sword has a hilt that is typical of two handed swords.

Lightweight and well-balanced, this sword is quick and can even be wielded with one hand. This Sempach sword includes a leather scabbard with a mount and chape.
